Coral restoration with GO OCEAN
This may not always be in the forefront of your mind, but the oceans are the driving force behind a healthy world.
This driving force is currently feeling the pressures of increasing pollution, over-exploitation and the effects of climate change.
Coral reefs are often called the rainforests of the sea and are an essential part of the ocean.
Unfortunately, they are threatened globally by factors such as climate change, pollution and poor water quality. In short, they urgently need our help.
That's why we have partnered up with Go Ocean. Since 1 January 2024, part of our Probio Tabs revenue is going to its coral reef restoration project.
WHAT DOES GO OCEAN DO?
Go Ocean selects and supports global projects aimed at restoring vulnerable ecosystems. It works together with local communities to achieve ecological gains and generate socioeconomic benefits.
Go Ocean is committed to:
- Supporting and accelerating the restoration of our coastlines and marine ecosystems
- Strengthening the resilience of our oceans
- Protecting the habitat of marine wildlife
- Reducing local threats, engaging residents and tourists and raising awareness

THE POWER OF CORAL REEFS
There are many ways you can help to restore or protect the ocean, so why do we focus specifically on coral reefs?
To answer that question, it's important to know what coral is exactly and what role it plays.
WHAT IS A CORAL REEF
A coral reef is not just a collection of corals and algae. It is a complex structure in which small animals called polyps live together with algae in dense colonies. This results in the colourful and breathtaking coral reefs we all know and love.
The coral reef is visually magnificent, but also plays a crucial role in the ocean. For example, it offers coastal protection and accommodates a lot of marine fauna, with every nook and cranny serving as a sanctuary for various species of fish and other marine animals.
WHY IS CORAL IN DANGER?
Vulnerable coral is facing various threats, such as:
- Exposure to changing water temperatures
- Oceanic acidification, which harms the coral's lime structures and inhibits their natural growth
- Poor water quality due to human activity
- The spread of invasive species
- Physical damage caused by stranded ships and the violent force of storms
Our Probio Tabs offer an effective solution to address these threats. Find out more below.

PROBIO TABS FOR AN OCEAN WITHOUT WASTE
Our Probio Tabs are probiotic effervescent tablets for preparing interior and sanitary cleansers. The tabs do more than just clean; they are a sustainable alternative to traditional cleaners. Their environmental benefits make Probio Tabs the perfect choice in support of the Go Ocean project.
THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF PROBIO TABS
You use Probio Tabs in a reusable spray bottle. This bottle contains 0% disposable plastic and the tabs themselves have been packaged in plastic-free paper. This reduces the risk of adding more plastic pollution to the oceans.
Probio Tabs make it unnecessary to transport large amounts of water as is often the case for traditional cleaners. This reduces 99% of CO₂ emissions caused by transport. So, a small change in your cleaning routine has a big impact on the health of our oceans.
After cleaning, the probiotics return to the wastewater network and integrate seamlessly into the natural ecosystem. This means they actively contribute to the restoration and maintenance of a healthy aquatic flora.
If you want to dive deeper into the world of Probio Tabs and how they contribute to waste-free cleaning, read our white paper here.
THE JOURNEY TO RESTORATION
Go Ocean is committed to restoring damaged and expanding healthy coral reefs.
They also implement educational programmes specifically aimed at local communities in Indonesia.
HOW DO WE HELP CORAL TO REGENERATE?
Healthy and diverse coral reefs are significantly more resilient to the challenges of climate change and other threats. In many parts of Indonesia, coral reefs are slowly degrading. We can slow down this decline and strengthen the resilience of these ecosystems with dedicated care and support.
Small corals are first prudently propagated in special nurseries and then transplanted with great care. When restoring coral reefs, the used transplantation methods play a crucial role. Go Ocean relies on two important methods: the rope and spider web techniques. These methods maximise the survival chances of the transplanted coral and promotes the diversity and resilience of the restored coral reefs.
AND WHAT ABOUT THE LOCALS?
The local community plays a crucial role in the restoration activities. Local dive guides act as experts, and Go Ocean organises training courses for communities to actively participate in the restoration process. Go Ocean therefore does more than just restore coral reefs; it reconnects local communities with the ocean.
By actively involving local communities, it creates a sustainable model that allows people to organise their own livelihoods. All while actively contributing to the preservation of our beloved oceans.
